Have you read our previous discussion on the different academic writing jobs available for academic writers? If yes, isn’t it exciting that developing quality academic writing skills can position you to qualify for so many research-related jobs? (Some of them are quite lucrative btw, especially if you have higher educational qualifications). We also showed you how we could help you learn to be an academic writer. It is now equally important for us to explore the easiest avenues you can follow to get academic writing gigs. Otherwise, it would be impossible to monetize your academic writing knowledge if you can’t find willing buyers. Here are all the details you need to know based on student-related academic writing jobs.
Student-Related Academic Writing Jobs
In our discussion on how to monetize your academic writing skills, we identified that academic writers can serve students as academic writing coaches, academic editors, or research assistants. For our current discussion, we shall include a fourth option: assignment helpers. This position involves the mainstream understanding of the work academic writers do, which is to write assignments for students. We include this option here because it’s one of the most common starting points for academic writers.
Options in Student-Related Academic Writing Jobs
Assignment Helpers
Academic writing jobs that involve working as an assignment helper operate in two ways. Academic writers can operate independently or through employment. The former group advertises its services online to attract customers we have grown to identify as direct clients (DCs). They may do so through their personal accounts on social media accounts such as Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter). They may also use other platforms such as Craigslist, Quora, and Reddit. Alternatively, they may create websites to attract DCs and hire other academic writers to fulfill the academic writing tasks they receive.
Academic writers who serve as assignment helpers through employment receive academic writing jobs from two sources. They may be hired by other academic writers who own websites through which they source for DCs. Alternatively, they may work for companies that offer students academic writing assignment help by owning ‘academic writing accounts’. (Such sites have been labelled as ‘essay mills’). Such international sites include Essaypro, Uvocorp, Nerdy Turtles, and Writerbay among others. Some academic writers own academic writing accounts that have options for working with a team of other academic writers. You could find employment through this form of sub-contracting. You can locate such individuals locally through websites such as Writers Admin, and Saseni.
Academic Writing Coaches
An academic writing coach, as we identified, provides students with academic tutoring in academic writing concepts. They may major in a specific discipline such as a subject in the Sciences, Arts, or Humanities to help their customers practice research writing in their subject accurately. Rather than doing assignments for students, they guide them on the best way to complete tasks they find to be difficult correctly. They can teach and provide other writing-related services such as rewriting, proofreading, editing, and plagiarism detection and removal. They advertise their services through the Internet and social media platforms. They also tend to have websites for providing their services.
Academic Writing Editors
Academic editors provide proofreading and editing services for scholarly papers. They can also facilitate plagiarism detection and removal. They, like academic writing coaches, tend to major in specific disciplines in which they are familiar with both their academic writing concepts and subject-specific knowledge. Advertising their services online through various internet and social media platforms, they restrict their service delivery to acceptable standards according to the ethical guidelines learning institutions provide. Just like academic writing coaches, the services they can provide include rewriting, proofreading, editing, and plagiarism detection and removal.
Research Assistants
A research assistant provides services that include practical applications of the roles an academic writing coach fulfills and the tasks an academic editor conducts. Such academic writers tend to offer discipline-specific support in research projects. Their services are active in preparing research proposals, theses, and dissertations. They lend their expertise to research methodology preparation through research design, questionnaire design, and conducting the research through survey or interview administration and experimentation, data analysis, interpretation, and presentation. They too can advertise their services through various internet and social media platforms and may have websites to attract customers.
